Iran wants end to airstrikes in Yemen...Two accused of helping IS free on bond... Shooting suspect charged

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Iran's foreign minister is urging U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to try to end what he calls "the senseless aerial attacks" in Yemen by a Saudi-led coalition and establish a cease-fire. Javad Zarif says hospitals, schools, roads, food factories and power plants are being destroyed — escalating a humanitarian crisis that he says is "approaching catastrophic dimensions."

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A federal judge in St. Louis says two people who are accused of supporting Islamic State fighters overseas can be the released on bail. An indictment alleges that the two and four others — who remain jailed — supplied cash and supplies that were sent by one of them to Islamic State fighters and others overseas.

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A Maryland man accused of killing a U.S. Census Bureau guard during a crime rampage in and around Washington, D.C., on April 9 is being charged with murder and other federal offenses. Ronald Anderson was charged in a criminal complaint on Friday. The U.S. attorney's office says the 48-year-old Anderson could face the death penalty if convicted.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona police officer who stopped an armed suspect in suburban Tucson by ramming his cruiser into him says he felt it was his only option. Prosecutors cleared Officer Michael Rapiejko of wrongdoing. He told investigators he was too far to shoot his handgun accurately and that shooting it would have posed a risk to other officers and bystanders.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Gunfights and blockades of burning vehicles are reported in the Mexican border city of Reynosa, across from McAllen, Texas. The city government posted a warning on its Twitter site recommending motorists avoid several areas, including the highway to Matamoros. Warring factions of the Gulf cartel have been fighting turf battles around Reynosa and Matamoros.
