The states contract with the New Hampshire-based Measured Progress to administer the tests, which are linked to the hotly disputed, federally-backed education standards. CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Assembly Republicans say they're working to make amends after a verbal altercation in a private caucus meeting earlier this week. Assemblywoman Victoria Seaman said she's upset that fellow Republican Ira Hansen refused to hold a vote on a bill by today's legislative deadline, and said he made threatening comments to her during the meeting. Hansen disagreed with Seaman's version of events.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada senators have passed a bill that aims to curb predatory short-term lending. The Nevada Senate voted unanimously yesterday to approve the measure which would enact the Payday Lender Best Practices Act. Critics say payday lenders exploit the poor with exorbitant interest rates.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say an 84-year-old inmate in prison for second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon has died. Prison officials say Lester Herman died Wednesday at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center's medical facility in Carson City. The agency says Herman had been imprisoned since 2000.
