5 dead in AZ home...Man set for arraignment in terror plan...Surge in drug seizures

PHOENIX (AP) — Five adults, including three brothers, are dead in what could a dispute over a family business. Police in Phoenix say the bodies were found inside a home after a shooting. Besides the three brothers, police say the dead include their mother and one of the male victims' wives. Two other women and two children managed to escape. Police are still piecing together what happened.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A U.S. citizen originally from Somalia is scheduled for arraignment in federal court in Ohio today on charges he planned to attack a military base or a prison. Authorities say Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud (ab-DEE'-RAH'-mahn shayk moh-HAH'-mud), who was arrested earlier this year, allegedly traveled to Syria and trained alongside terrorists, then returned to the U.S. to hatch his plan. He's expected to plead not guilty.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say there's been a surge of drug seizures near Central and South America, as evidenced by the arrival in San Diego of a Coast Guard cutter carrying more than 14 tons of cocaine. The cocaine, valued by the Coast Guard at $424 million, was seized by U.S. and Canadian forces in 19 separate incidents in the eastern Pacific Ocean near Central and South America.

DENVER (AP) — A published report says the gay GOP group Log Cabin Republicans has received an invitation to share booth space at the Western Conservative Summit in June after being snubbed by organizers. The Denver Post reports the invitation to share comes from the Colorado Republican Party. Summit organizers say that because Log Cabin Republicans advocate for gay marriage, they cannot have an official presence at a traditional family event.

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Cuba may wind up on Pope Francis' itinerary when he visits the United States in September. The Vatican says the Cuba stop is being considered but no decision has been made. Francis has been credited with having helped the United States and Cuba reach their historic rapprochement.
