PHOENIX (AP) — An hours-long standoff has ended very badly in Phoenix, where police have found the bodies of five adults in a home. A police spokesman says three men found were brothers. The other two victims were the men's mother and a spouse. Police say two other women and two children escaped unharmed.
WASHINGTON (AP) — United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling for an immediate cease-fire in Yemen. The U.N. chief hopes a pause in hostilities will spur peace talks and get lifesaving aid into the impoverished Middle East nation. Speaking in Washington, Ban says world crises have resulted in 50 million refugees, the most since World War II.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the House Committee on Homeland Security -- Texas Republican Michael McCaul -- says he's considering holding hearings on Capitol security. Other lawmakers remain alarmed that a Florida postal worker was able to fly a small gyrocopter onto the lawn of the Capitol on Wednesday. He faces two criminal charges and has been ordered to stay out of Washington unless it's for court appearances. Doug Hughes was protesting campaign finance laws.
SHANKSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Hundreds of volunteers are joining state forestry officials in a massive tree-planting project Friday and Saturday at the Flight 93 National Memorial. About 22,000 seedlings will be planted. United Flight 93 crashed in an abandoned strip mine in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after being hijacked by four terrorists on 9/11. Forty people died, along with the hijackers. The memorial located 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh is still under construction.
CHICAGO (AP) — Southwest Airlines says a passenger aboard a flight from Chicago to Manchester, New Hampshire, was removed after allegedly poking a snoring passenger with a pen. She was removed for what the airline says was "causing a disturbance." Paramedics who examined the man said he was not injured. The woman was allowed to take another flight.
