MIAMI (AP) — Billing himself as a fresh face from a working-class background, Florida freshman Sen. Marco Rubio says he's running for the GOP presidential nomination. Rubio noted at a Miami rally that he is the son of a bartender and a maid. In an apparent reference to Hillary Rodham Clinton and former mentor Jeb Bush, Rubio said he would be a better choice than "those who come from power and privilege."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is threatening to veto two bills that the White House says would gut financial reforms affecting housing that were put in place after the economic crash. One of the bills would exempt some borrowing fees from an existing law aimed at protecting consumers. Supporters say the bills would improve access to credit and mortgages, but the White House says consumers would face higher costs and be put at risk of predatory lending.

BERLIN (AP) — Russia and Ukraine have agreed to call for the pullback of smaller caliber weapons from the front lines in eastern Ukraine. It's another attempt to end the region's yearlong conflict. Foreign ministers from the two countries are meeting with their French and German counterparts in Berlin.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The family of a Tulsa, Oklahoma, man fatally shot by a reserve sheriff's deputy says the arresting officers treated Eric Harris "as if he was less than human." Officials say the volunteer deputy, 73-year-old insurance executive Robert Bates, mistakenly pulled out a handgun instead of a stun gun. He's been charged with manslaughter. The shooting was captured on video.

NEW YORK (AP) — A handwritten notebook by British World War II code-breaking genius Alan Turing has brought more than $1 million at auction in New York. Turing was the subject of the 2014 Oscar-winning film "The Imitation Game." The sale also included a working German Enigma enciphering machine. Turing was prosecuted for being gay at a time when it was illegal in Britain. His death in 1954 was ruled a suicide.
