BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Senate failed to override Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's veto on legislation that would have made roughly 250 slot-like betting machines in Idaho illegal. The veto attempt fell short even though the Senate acknowledged that the governor did not follow the constitution's notification requirement. Otter waited nearly three days to reveal his verdict -- the deadline to sign the legislation was on April 4.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho lawmakers have approved a bill to legalize oil extracted from marijuana plants to treat children with severe epilepsy and it's now on the governor's desk. Supporters say the oil can reduce the frequency and severity of seizures in children with epilepsy. But opponents say it marks a slippery slope toward medical marijuana. Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has not said whether he will sign the bill.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Environmentalists are suing over how many grizzly bears would need to be killed by elk hunters before Grand Teton National Park officials would have to reassess their rules for elk hunting in the park. The lawsuit against the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says planning for elk hunters to kill as many as four grizzlies over the next seven years fails to account for cumulative threats to grizzlies across the region.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — St. Luke's Health System wants to build a $96 million hospital in Nampa. The Idaho Statesman reports that St. Luke's plans to go before city officials on April 14 to request permission to expand on its 33-acre site in Nampa.
