CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are reviewing a bill that would require employers to give nursing mothers a time and place to pump breast milk. The measure discussed Friday would require public and private employers to give workers a clean and private place for pumping. The break time could be paid or unpaid, and businesses with fewer than 25 employees wouldn't be required to comply if the measure creates an undue hardship.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada senators have passed a proposal increasing the state's minimum wage and modifying how overtime hours are calculated. The bill raises minimum wage for employees without employer-offered health insurance to $9 an hour and removes several rules governing how overtime is calculated. Democrats opposed the bill saying it wouldn't change the $7.25 wage for workers with employer-provided health care and that it wouldn't fairly compensate workers with longer shifts.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are dropping two bills that would enact religious protections into state law that opponents criticized as opening the door for discrimination. Republican Assemblyman Erv Nelson said recent outcry over a similar law in Indiana and existing provisions in the Nevada constitution helped solidify his decision to not pursue the bills.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The police chief in Boulder City says a 54-year-old man killed in a shootout with two veteran Boulder City police officers last weekend fired the first shot. The Clark County coroner identified the dead man as John Marcell Allen and ruled his death a homicide. Police Chief William Conger said Friday that Allen fired one shot with a black-powder revolver before patrol officers Alan Nutzman and Armando Salazar returned fire about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
