SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah regulators will not be allowed to ban wood burning for an entire season under a new state law. The regulations would still ban all wood burning on bad air days and ban burning by non-EPA certified stoves on the moderate days. It was supported by wood burners but strongly opposed by clean air advocates.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County health officials will begin collecting donations of sunscreen, hats, lip balm and water bottles to help homeless people stay protected from the sun. Starting today, donation boxes will be placed at all county library branches, the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the county government building. The Fourth Street Clinic, which serves about 4,200 homeless people a year, will distribute the donated items.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes is scheduled to give a speech at Utah Valley University today as part of a conference featuring short TEDx talks. The university has scheduled a daylong TEDx conference organized by the school but inspired by the nonprofit group TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A tax on junk food sold on the Navajo Nation is going into effect today. Tribal officials passed legislation last year for an additional 2 percent sales tax on food with little to no nutritional value. Advocates for the junk-food tax say it could serve as a model for Indian Country to improve the rates of diabetes and obesity among tribal members.
