WASHINGTON (AP) — The second-ranking Democrat in the Senate is calling on Hillary Rodham Clinton to publicly explain her side of the story, concerning the private email account she used while she was secretary of state.

Dick Durbin of Illinois, speaking today on MSNBC, became the first member of the Senate Democratic leadership to publicly make that appeal to Clinton. He said, "She should come forward and explain the situation." Durbin says it's "only fair" to ask Clinton, "What did you put on this personal email?"

Clinton is expected to take questions from reporters this afternoon about her use of the private email account. That word comes from a person familiar with her thinking.

She spoke yesterday at a carefully-choreographed two-hour event at the Clinton Foundation, highlighting economic and educational opportunities for women and girls, but she took no questions.
