RENO, Nev. (AP) — Conservationists have criticized the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's plan to protect habitat for an imperiled distinct species of sage grouse found along the Nevada-California line south of Reno. A wildlife biologist says the plan for the so-called bi-state sage grouse reflects a mixture of science and political compromise that will probably lead to further population declines of the birds. A Forest Supervisor says the plan addresses key threats.

MINDEN, Nev. (AP) — A 50-year-old woman has been convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband at Lake Tahoe. The Nevada Appeal reports Tatiana Leibel did not testify during the two-week trial. She is from Russia and had the proceedings translated. Her attorney maintained Harry Leibel could have shot himself.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A nine-vehicle collision in Las Vegas has left one person dead, three seriously injured and one in custody. Police say a speeding vehicle driven by 32-year-old Kenneth Rankin of Las Vegas ran a red light and struck three vehicles. Those vehicles then careened into five vehicles. A 56-year-old Las Vegas woman died after her vehicle was struck in the intersection. Her name wasn't immediately released.

INDIAN SPRINGS, Nev. (AP) — An inmate serving time for a drug offense in Washoe County has died at a southern Nevada prison. Department of Corrections officials say 60-year-old Dale Prater died at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs. The Clark County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
