ELKO, Nev. (AP) — More than a dozen Nevada mine workers spent a rainy night in their trucks when a slide blocked the exit road from the bottom of an open pit gold mine. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a 46-year-old man wounded by an officer at the scene of a family argument had a butcher knife in each hand and lunged toward officers before he was shot. Police say Paul Herron underwent surgery after the shooting Sunday afternoon on a lawn outside a condominium complex several blocks southeast of downtown Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — State, federal and tribal leaders helped mark the dedication of the Tule (TOO'-lee) Springs Fossil Beds National Monument at the northern edge of the Las Vegas valley yesterday. Congress designated the new national monument earlier this month after a decades-long campaign by paleontologists, business groups, local governments and others.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Caesars Entertainment says pop star Jennifer Lopez will perform one night only — New Year's Eve night — at The Colosseum on the Las Vegas Strip. The news follows reports in October that Lopez was in talks behind-the-scenes to perform at Planet Hollywood, another Caesars Entertainment Corp. casino-hotel.
