SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 24-year-old female orangutan named Eve has died at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City, the second ape to die there in the last three months. The Zoo reported yesterday that Eve died on Sunday after she unexpectedly got sick from multiple health problems. She gave birth by C-section to a male orangutan on Nov. 4, but they don't believe that surgery led to her death. Her partner, Eli, died in September from complications due to breast cancer.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — With the holiday shopping season underway, police in South Salt Lake are warning people to be careful with deliveries after a man watched on video as packages were stolen from his home. Police said yesterday the victim saw the theft on a feed from a home surveillance camera about an hour after the package was delivered.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The governor's office unveils details today of Gov. Gary Herbert's alternative to expanding eligibility for Medicaid in Utah. The federal government has offered to help pay most of the cost if states allow more people to be eligible for the state-federal program. Herbert has instead proposed using federal money to enroll more than 100,000 poor Utah residents on private health care programs.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Delon Wright hit a go-ahead jumper with 14 seconds left in overtime to boost No. 25 Utah over No. 8 Wichita State 69-68 last night, snapping the Shockers' regular-season winning streak at 35 games. Brandon Taylor had 17 points for the Utes, who hadn't hosted such a highly ranked team since toppling No. 1 Alabama 51-49 in 1999.
