WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department says it was perfectly legal for government agents to shut off the Internet to three high-roller suites in Las Vegas and have government agents impersonate computer repairmen as part of an investigation into a group of Asian gamblers accused of running an illegal sports betting operation. The filing was in response to a defense motion to throw out evidence in the illegal gambling case against eight Asian gamblers.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities have identified a 19-year-old Las Vegas man who died after crashing during an apparent street race. Clark County coroner's officials say Michael Aviles was killed early this morning when his 1998 Pontiac Firebird left the road, hit a block wall and then struck the vehicle he was racing. The driver of the other car fled on foot.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Homicide detectives are investigating after a 42-year-old man was found shot dead at a home north of downtown Las Vegas over the weekend. Clark County coroner's officials say Monty Culverson was pronounced dead Saturday of a gunshot wound to the chest. Police say they didn't immediately have a suspect or a motive for the shooting.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The "November Nine" return to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to play no-limit Texas Hold 'em and vie for the World Series of Poker's $10 million top prize. Nine young poker playing men have spent four months away from the main event waiting for the chance to be the last player with piles of chips in front of him. The competition starts tonight.
