LONDON (AP) — British prosecutors have withdrawn the arrest warrant in the case of a British couple who took their 5-year-old son to Spain in hopes of getting a new type of radiation therapy for his brain tumor. The decision came after the head of the police force that applied for the warrant described the current situation as "not right." The chief constable of Hampshire Police says their intent was to secure his safety — "not to deny him family support at this particularly challenging time in his life."
WASHINGTON (AP) — As President Barack Obama prepares to leave Washington this afternoon for meetings with Baltic leaders -- followed by a NATO summit -- tensions in Ukraine are showing no signs of easing. Ukraine's government says Russian troops have been spotted in two major cities in eastern Ukraine that are held by rebels.
JERUSALEM (AP) — The 50-day war with Israel apparently hasn't hurt the popularity of Hamas among Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. An opinion poll released today finds a surge in support for Hamas and its leadership. More than 60 percent of those surveyed said that if presidential elections were held today, their vote would go to the leader of Hamas. Just 32 percent would vote for current President Mahmoud Abbas.
WASHINGTON (AP) — It's a sign that spending on construction projects will help boost the U.S. economy in the second half of this year. The government says construction spending posted a strong rebound in July, rising by the largest amount in more than two years. All major categories of construction showed gains.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Ten of the teens who escaped from a youth detention center in Nashville are still at large. A spokesman at the center says they were among 32 teenagers who escaped by crawling under a weak spot in a fence. Two of the escapees were captured immediately, while others were found overnight. Authorities say most of the teens being held at the facility had committed at least three felonies.
