CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada state mental health services would get a $3.5 million boost from tobacco settlement money under a proposal that Gov. Brian Sandoval says he's taking to the administration's Interim Finance Committee on Thursday. Sandoval says he wants the state Department of Health and Human Services to act on five recommendations from his Governor's Behavioral Health and Wellness Council.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Today is the deadline to gather signatures for two conservative-backed initiatives on the November ballot. One of the proposed constitutional amendments would prohibit the state from establishing a health insurance exchange. The other requires voters to present photo identification at the polls. Each needs more than 101,000 signatures.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say seven Nevada law officers were involved in the gun battle that killed a suspect in a double-homicide south of Reno, but authorities are releasing few other details. Police are seeking witnesses to Friday night's high-speed chase on U.S. Highway 50 that ended when the suspect was shot multiple times at the Sand Mountain Recreation Area east of Fallon.

LAS VEGAS (AP) —Las Vegas medical office receptionist has been sentenced in federal court to one year of home confinement and three years' probation for her role in the black market sale of powerful prescription painkillers. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the judge also ordered Jade Lepoma to quit her job as a receptionist for physician Victor Bruce.
