FAIRVIEW, Utah (AP) — Sanpete County authorities are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide. The Sanpete County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to reports of a shooting in Fairview Heights on Monday. Deputies found a man in his mid-20s and his mother dead of gunshot wounds.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State liquor officials say they are likely to approve a license for beer at Snowbird Ski Resort's Oktoberfest. That's a turnaround from last month, when Utah's liquor board warned it might withhold such a permit this summer. Commission chairman David Gladwell said in June the license is meant for one-time community events, not running attractions aiming to turn a profit.
WOODS CROSS, Utah (AP) — A Utah woman who was hit twice by freight trains in her car last fall after fleeing police has been sentenced to 90 days of house arrest. The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports 30-year-old Bonnie Jean Stroud must also pay restitution to two men and Union Pacific Railroad.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — BLM officials in Utah plan to inject 130 wild horses with contraceptives next winter as part of effort to control the population. It would be the second time officials have used birth control on this herd, which lives in a valley southwest of Salt Lake City. The group Protect Mustangs denounced the plan and instead advocated that the herds be left alone to self-stabilize their numbers.
