BAGHDAD (AP) — A Sunni militant group is posting graphic photos on a website that appear to show its masked fighters massacring dozens of captured Iraqi soldiers. With thousands of Shiite men heeding a call from their most revered spiritual leader to take up arms against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, there are fears the grisly images will further sharpen sectarian tensions.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Baghdad is being readied to defend itself if a Sunni militant group that has swept across northern Iraq and is moving south threatens the capital as it has promised. Even the massive U.S. Embassy is beefing up security. Meanwhile, officials say a series of explosions has rocked the city. At least 19 people were reported killed on Sunday and more than 40 wounded.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Residents in a central California community that's being threatened by a wildfire in and around the Sequoia National Forest are being told to evacuate. The U.S. Forest Service says about 2.8 square miles have been charred by the blaze near Wofford Heights, which is about 30 miles northeast of Bakersfield. The fire is just 10 percent contained.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say they've arrested a man on suspicion of murder after his brother was fatally shot during a weekend family birthday celebration in South Los Angeles. An LAPD spokesman says 40-year-old Louis Hill was arrested today. He says Hill is suspected of fatally shooting his 48-year-old brother Derrick Hill on Saturday night at a family member's birthday party.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — KFC Corp. says it's investigating allegations that an employee in Jackson, Mississippi, asked a 3-year-old to leave a restaurant because her facial injuries frightened other patrons. KFC has apologized and is donating $30,000 toward her medical bills. The allegation was made on a Facebook page that's following the girl's recovery from a pit bull attack in April.
