BAGHDAD (AP) — The new week has brought bloodshed from terror in Iraq. Iraqi officials say at least 15 people have been killed by explosions at the offices of Kurdish political parties north of Baghdad. The blasts were triggered by back-to-back truck bombs. Some of the victims had rushed to aid those injured in the first blast.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — There's been no claim of responsibility for an attack on a police base in eastern Afghanistan that left three suicide bombers and a guard dead. An Afghan official in Nangarhar province says the attackers set 25 trucks ablaze. There have been recent high-profile bombings by the Taliban ahead of the June 14 runoff in the country's presidential election.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — As a precaution, police in Las Vegas who normally work alone are being paired with another officer. The precaution follows Sunday's brazen attack that killed two officers as they were having lunch at a pizzeria. The suspects, a man and a woman, shot the officers at point-blank range. They then fled to a Wal-Mart across the street, where they killed a customer before getting into a gunbattle with officers. Police say the woman killed her partner and then herself.
AURORA, Colo. (AP) — Powerful storms are expected to rumble through parts of the nation's midsection today, including parts of Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri. The same system produced a rash of tornadoes in Colorado. The National Weather Service says there eight twisters, three of which caused damage.
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie's chief of staff is scheduled to go before a New Jersey legislative committee investigating traffic jams at the George Washington Bridge. Kevin O'Dowd is due to testify today under oath. O'Dowd told lawyers hired by Christie that he had no knowledge of a plot to slow traffic to punish a Democratic mayor. Meanwhile, Christie is scheduled to appear Thursday on Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight" show.
