WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton says Maya Angelou (MY'-uh AN'-juh-loh) lived enough to experience five lifetimes. Speaking at the poet, orator and actress' memorial service in a chapel at Wake Forest University, Clinton likened Angelou to a firefly, saying she would light up at the most unpredictable times and show you something in your mind you had been burying or something in your heart you were afraid to face. Angelou died last week at age 86.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan has been critically injured in a six-vehicle pileup on the New Jersey Turnpike early this morning that left one passenger in Morgan's limousine bus dead. Two other men riding in the bus with the former "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" cast member are also in critical condition, while another is in fair condition. New Jersey state police have not said what may have caused the pileup, which involved two tractor-trailers, an SUV and two cars along with the bus carrying Morgan.

ATLANTA (AP) — Investigators are trying to determine why a man carrying an assault rifle, explosives and supplies opened fire outside a Georgia courthouse yesterday, wounding one deputy before dying in a shootout. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says Dennis Marx had been scheduled to appear in court on a drug charge. The deputy who was shot is scheduled for surgery on his leg but is said to be doing well.

SAINT-BRIAC-SUR-MER, France (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says he's hoping for steps to ease tensions in Ukraine now that the new president has been sworn in. Kerry tells reporters in France that he's "confident there are ways forward," and that includes Russia's help in getting separatists to put away their weapons and relinquish buildings they're occupying. He says the hope is not to impose tougher penalties against Russia over its actions in Ukraine.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — The United States is offering new financial assistance to Moldova (mawl-DOH'-vah) and Georgia. Vice President Joe Biden announced the aid to the two former Soviet nations in Kiev during meetings with both nations' presidents on the sidelines of the new Ukrainian president's inauguration. Both Moldova and Georgia are pursuing association agreements with the European Union amid a regional crisis over Russia's actions in Ukraine.
