SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors say a Utah man can be tried in federal court for the killing of a sheriff's deputy despite being acquitted of her murder in state court. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Utah argues that Roberto Roman can be tried on the dozen charges he faces from the 2010 shooting of a Millard County deputy during a traffic stop. Roman has argued that the federal case constitutes double jeopardy.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A group of female Utah high school students say having their yearbook photos edited to meet modesty standards squelched their right to express themselves through what they wear. Some Wasatch High School students say higher necklines and sleeves were added to some of the photos. District officials apologize that the alterations were not uniformly applied and say they're evaluating the policy.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Kearns man accused of drunken driving has been ordered to stand trial on charges that include vehicular homicide. The vehicular homicide charge carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence upon conviction. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the 45-year-old Manuel Guinea is scheduled for an arraignment next month.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A judge has ruled that a Utah County Republican Party leader was protected by state law when he made defamatory comments about another member of the party. The ruling means Vice Chairman Daryl Acumen won't have to pay $1 in damages to party member Julie Blaney. Blaney says she sought only $1 because she wanted to clear her name.
