(AP) — Authorities say the son of a Hollywood director expressed contempt about women, men and his roommates in YouTube videos and a written manifesto before carrying out a stabbing and shooting rampage Friday night in a California college town. Police say Elliot Rodger killed four men and two women and injured 13 people before taking his own life.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Myrtle Beach police say three people have been shot to death and another person injured at a motel in the South Carolina resort city. Police say it happened last night at the Bermuda Sands Motel. A witness told The Sun News that several people were fighting on the sidewalk in front of the motel minutes before the shooting.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Florida health officials say all the health care workers who came into contact with a Saudi resident infected with the second confirmed MERS case in the U.S. have been cleared to return to work. The Florida Department of Health previously said all had tested negative for the rare virus. But a spokeswoman for Orlando Health says that "out of an abundance of caution," the workers were required to remain out of work for the virus' full 14-day incubation period.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Pope Francis has landed at Israel's international airport, where he was greeted with an honor guard and top Israeli officials. President Shimon Peres (shee-MOHN' PEHR'-ehs) thanked Francis for his strong stand against anti-Semitism and noted the visit came a day after a deadly shooting at a Jewish center in Brussels. Francis arrived from the West Bank town of Bethlehem, where earlier in the day he voiced strong sympathy for the Palestinians.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Long lines are snaking around polling stations in Kiev for Ukraine's crucial presidential election. But in the country's east, heavily armed pro-Russia rebels have intimidated voters by smashing ballot boxes and blocking voting centers. Ukraine's eastern regions have seen weeks of fighting as pro-Russia insurgents seized government buildings, battled government troops and vowed to disrupt the voting.
