BONNERS FERRY, Idaho (AP) — A freight train has derailed in northern Idaho near the Kootenai River, but BNSF officials say nothing has spilled into the waterway and no hazardous materials were involved. BNSF says 19 cars derailed early yesterday five miles east of Bonners Ferry. The railroad said crews planned to work through the night in hopes of reopening the line this morning. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho State Police office in Coeur d'Alene was evacuated for a short time because of a suspicious device found inside the building. A bomb squad sent to the scene yesterday found the device was not a bomb and posed no threat.

OAKLEY, Idaho (AP) — Two brothers aged 5 and 2 sustained skull fractures falling from a second-story window onto concrete in Oakley. The Times-News reports the older boy has been discharged, while the 2-year-old was kept in intensive care at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) — Idaho is one of 20 states where hundreds of young people will be clearing weeds and planting trees under a federal program that depends on private funding. The government is putting in $1.9 million of the $6.7 million for the project that Interior Secretary Sally Jewell announced yesterday. Greg Knadle of the nonprofit National Fish and Wildlife Foundation says most of the rest is coming from Wells Fargo & Co.
