BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden is calling on European allies to stand firm in punishing Russia for its role in the unrest in Ukraine, and its annexation of Crimea. Biden today began a visit to Romania aimed at reassuring Eastern European nations of the U.S. support for the region. As he met with U.S and Romanian forces taking part in joint military exercises, Biden said, "Europe's borders should never again be changed at the point of a gun."

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A former aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he is "dumbfounded and disappointed" that a few rogue Christie loyalists shut down traffic in a political payback plot. The former aide, Matt Mowers, is testifying before New Jersey lawmakers investigating the scandal that's engulfed Christie's administration. He says he wasn't involved in the plot. Mowers worked in Christie's office and on last year's re-election campaign. He is now the executive director of New Hampshire's Republican Party.

MIAMI (AP) — The mayor of North Miami has surrendered to federal agents after she was charged with others in an $8 million mortgage fraud scheme. The FBI confirms that Mayor Lucie Tondreau is in custody. She had been at a Las Vegas convention on city business when an indictment charging her was unsealed yesterday. Prosecutors say Tondreau and three others conspired before she became mayor to defraud lenders. They allegedly used straw buyers to obtain inflated loans in order to buy 20 properties. Tondreau's attorney says she is innocent.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Michael Jace -- best known as a police officer on TV's "The Shield" -- is behind bars in Los Angeles after his wife was found shot to death last night in their home. Police arrested Jace on suspicion of homicide. Jace and his wife, who were married for nine years, had two young sons. And police say two children who were at the home at the time of the shooting are now in protective custody.

TOKYO (AP) — Paul McCartney is canceling his entire Japan tour because of illness. The former Beatle got a virus last week and canceled several appearances, apologizing online to his fans. Now, his organizers say he is not well enough to do any of the concerts in Japan, including the one set for tomorrow at a venue where the Beatles performed during their first Japan tour in 1966.
