(AP) — About 60 evacuees in Jackson, Wyoming have been told to be prepared to be out of their homes for the weekend as officials keep a close watch on what's being called a slow-motion landslide. Officials were aware a year ago that the hillside was shifting and had installed monitoring equipment. It got worse recently, breaking a water line. Experts can't say if the slowly shifting ground will stabilize, or just let go.
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott says it's likely to be a long search for a missing Malaysian airliner. His comments today appeared to couch remarks yesterday expressing confidence that signals heard by an Australian ship are coming from the Boeing 777's black boxes. Search crews are scrambling today because the batteries powering the recorders' locators are past their operational window.
MURRYSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — The suspect isn't talking and many victims remain hospitalized, leaving investigators with no evidence yet to show that a 16-year-old boy charged in a stabbing rampage at his high school was targeting any particular student. Alex Hribal (RY'-buhl) is accused of stabbing or slashing 21 students and a guard on Wednesday at Franklin Regional High School east of Pittsburgh.
HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston woman is going to prison to begin a life sentence for fatally stabbing her boyfriend with the 5½-inch stiletto heel of her shoe, striking him at least 25 times in the face and head. Ana Trujillo was convicted of murder Tuesday by the same jury. The jury decided the sentence yesterday.
BOSTON (AP) — Presidential aspirations are part of the mix as some of the nation's leading conservatives gather for a New Hampshire summit. A key attack target will be President Barack Obama's health care overhaul. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are among the conference headliners at the summit sponsored by Citizens United and Americans for Prosperity.
