SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City police are breathing new life into the cold case of a pregnant woman who vanished in 2002. Investigators say they've reopened the case of Aletha Jo Williams based on new information. They're asking friends and acquaintances for more tips, and are offering a cash award that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A committee of Utah lawmakers has rejected that would make it a felony to damage Utah's geologic features. The panel decided to hold off on the measure, which they say is unnecessary and broad. The bill was filed after two former Boy Scout leaders were accused of knocking over an ancient rock formation at Goblin Valley State Park.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A state House committee has approved a measure to prevent youth suicides by giving gun owners information on how to store their weapons away from children and teens. The bill would provide brochures and pamphlets showing that many youth suicide attempts involve a gun belonging to a parent or family member, among other statistics.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A group pushing Utah to adopt a primary election system for nominating political candidates says it has almost enough signatures to put the issue to voters. Count My Vote says it's about 2,000 short of the required number of signatures for their ballot initiative -- more than 102,000. The deadline is April 15.
