SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football head coach Kyle Whittingham announced Wednesday the hiring of Taylor Stubblefield to be the team’s newest wide receivers position coach.

Stubblefield was the wide receivers coach for one season at Wake Forest last year. Prior to his year at Wake Forest, Stubblefield coached a season at New Mexico (2012), Central Michigan (2011) and two seasons at Illinois State (2009-10).

Stubblefield was an All-American wide receiver at Purdue and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2004. He had an NCAA record 316 receptions in three seasons and holds the second-best record for receiving yards in the Big Ten with 3,629 receiving yards.

“Taylor was a record-setting college receiver who has developed into a fine coach,” Whittingham said in a prepared statement. “He will be an asset for us both on the field and through his recruiting ties across the country. We are excited to have Taylor join our staff.”

I'm fired up to be at Utah and to work for someone as accomplished as Coach Whittingham. I couldn't ask for a better situation with the style of offense Coach (Dave) Christensen plans to run, which fits my background perfectly.

With Stubblefield taking the wide receivers coaching position, Aaron Roderick, who has coached the receivers since 2005, will now coach the quarterbacks — a position that became vacant after Brian Johnson accepted a job with Mississippi State.

In another change, Whittingham will now oversee the special teams following the departure of Jay Hill, who accepted the head coaching position at Weber State.
