SALT LAKE CITY — The Utes put the pads on today and the players always seem to love to talk about that. Eric Rowe was no different. "Everybody is getting ready to hit again, it's the first day since spring ball," Rowe said smiling.

One of the most notable changes from day three has to be in the defensive backfield at safety. Junior college transfer Tevin Carter has not made it to camp yet so head coach Kyle Whittingham is starting to turn to plan "B" right now giving some snaps to linebacker Reshawn Hooker at strong safety.

"We don't know when that's going to happen," Whittingham said about Tevin Carter getting to Utah. "Potentially it may not happen."

Hooker played safety in high school so is familiar with the position and will be getting more familiar to how the Utes play safety in the coming weeks.

But one of the best stories of fall camp could be on the defensive line.

Tenny Palepoi? No, no, not him.

Trevor Reilly? No.

Nate Orchard? Not him either.

Latu Heimuli is back playing and finally at 100 percent.

"He has gone through a ton," Whittingham said. "If he is able to play throughout the season, he will be the comeback story of the year."

Coach Whittingham continues to mention freshman Troy McCormick. McCormick is forcing his way into some playing time whether on special teams or maybe even steals some time on offense. That is becoming a storyline in fall camp that everyone will keep their eyes on.

It was fun to watch a relay race from the Utes today. The teams were organized as to which state they are from. The team from California won. Video is available to watch in the player above.
