WASHINGTON (AP) - Samantha Power is officially the new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Vice President Joe Biden administered the oath of office to the 42-year-old Power on Friday, a day after the Senate overwhelmingly approved the outspoken human rights advocate by a vote of 87-10.
A former foreign policy adviser to President Barack Obama, Power succeeds Susan Rice, now the president's national security adviser.
The swearing-in ceremony at the White House was closed to media coverage, but Biden's office spread the word via photo release on Twitter.
The photo shows Power accompanied by her husband, Cass Sunstein, a former Obama administration official.
