SALT LAKE CITY (January 31, 2008) - Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer was named to the Western Conference All-Star team as of one of the seven reserves announced by the NBA today. Boozer was voted on to the 12-man squad by the 15 Western Conference coaches for the 57th NBA All-Star Game which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 17 at New Orleans Arena.
"It is a huge honor and I am very privileged to have been chosen as an NBA All-Star. It is extra special to be have been selected by the coaches," said Boozer. "To be chosen for the second time is very exciting and hopefully solidifies where my career is headed."
This is the second consecutive All-Star berth for Boozer, who is in his sixth NBA season and fourth with the Jazz. He was also selected to his first All-Star Game in 2007, but was unable to play due to a fractured left fibula head.
Boozer is one of only five players in the league averaging 20+ points and 10+ rebounds, averaging a career high 22.4 points, along with 10.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.27 steals, while shooting .549 from the field. He currently ranks eighth in the NBA in rebounding, ninth in field goal percentage and 12th in scoring, and is tied for third in the league with 31 double-doubles in 45 games played. He leads the Jazz in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage, while ranking second on the team in steals.
Boozer is the fourth player in Jazz franchise history to be chosen to consecutive All-Star Games, and the first since Karl Malone was selected 2000-02. Boozer is one of 10 Jazz players to have been named All-Stars: Adrian Dantley (1980-82, ‘84-86), Mark Eaton (1989), Rickey Green (1984), Andrei Kirilenko (2004), Karl Malone (1988-02), Pete Maravich (1977-79), Mehmet Okur (2007), Len "Truck" Robinson (1978) and John Stockton (1989-97, ‘00).
As with all of this year's All-Star participants, Boozer will join over 2,500 members of the NBA Family for the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service on Friday, Feb. 15. The volunteers will participate in a variety of service projects at 10 different sites throughout New Orleans.
The NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 17, will air live on TNT and ESPN Radio beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The game will also be telecast in over 200 countries and broadcast on NBA.com.
