NEW YORK (AP) - Children are getting grown-up laughs at a comedy show in New York City where homework, parents and the awkwardness of adolescence rule the stage.

Kids `N Comedy, a 17-year-old troupe of children ages 9 to 18, showcases a clean version of a sometimes crude craft. The group managed to draw its biggest crowd yet, 300 people, at a Manhattan performance last month at Gotham Comedy Club.

Young comedian Eric Kurn says some youngsters see a rock star or athlete and want to be like them. But he sees comedians and wants to try making people laugh. The Long Island 16-year-old says the comedy shows give him that chance.

Group founder Jo Ann Grossman says the children learn to perform clean acts that rely on wit rather than four-letter words.
