This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Rich Eggett, president and CEO of Rockwell, is a creative marketing machine. Rich found that the cell-phone generation, especially men, is, without doubt, the most fashion-conscious generation ever .... So, he decided to tap into that and created his watch company, Rockwell, with a philosophy that says, "Our watches don't tell time — they tell a story."

Rich is proud to tell everyone it's almost impossible to really copy Rockwell watches because it would cost too much money..... And that stems from the fact they're not a typical watch company ....All design work is done in house. The company mission statement is simple — when people buy a Rockwell, they're not buying a watch, they're buying an experience.....

The watches are made from ceramic, leather, stainless steel and are plated, so they won't tarnish. They also come with a lifetime service guarantee and two-year warranty, so customers know they'll be taken care of. At Rockwell, they take a three-pronged approach to business. First and most important, it has to be fun...Second, it has to be profitable....Finally, their products have to be really good.... To give you an idea of what fun means to Rich, he and his team just finished the Baja 1000 in Mexico from Ensenada to Cabo.

People recognize Rockwell watches too. Recently a professional athlete was wearing a Rockwell and saw someone keep looking over at him. The athlete prepared himself for the person to ask for an autograph when instead, he admired the athlete's watch.

Rockwell has done so well with their men's line of watches, they've now entered the women's watch market. They've grown to the size that allows them to form their own marketing company.... That allows them to create and control their own media all while developing and designing their own ideas, and the business control is working for them ..... Rockwell is a great example of why Utah has one of the highest patents per capita in the nation.
