Here are some instant thoughts from tonight's 20-14 BYU loss at San Jose State...

-Even though we knew how potent the Spartan offense was, I was surprised they were able to move the ball so easily on the BYU. The Cougar defense has faced two prolific passing teams, and both have shredded BYU through the air.

-BYU couldn't get any pressure on San Jose State quarterback David Fales in the first half. Fales had plenty of time to make plays, especially on third down. The defense got to Fales a little in the 2nd half but it didn't matter by then.

-Riley Nelson struggled all night long. There were too many throws over player's heads; or behind them. Even with his late heroics, there were too many other chances wasted.

-It's a shame that the last drive for BYU ended in a fumble. It would have been nice to see how things would have played out with better blocking on that play.

-SJSU scored their last touchdown with 13:23 left in the 2nd quarter. BYU's offense had plenty of time to turn things around, but could never get over the hump.

-Penalties, especially false starts, continue to haunt this team. It's been a problem all-year long.

-I know that Bronco was worried about receiving the bowl invitation with two games remaining. There was concern that it would take some motivation away. It makes you wonder.
