PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Trent Plaisted scored 22 points and had 16 rebounds, both career highs, to lead BYU to an 89-80 overtime win over TCU Wednesday night.
Plaisted also scored six points in overtime to help the Cougars (11-6, 3-3 Mountain West) outscore the Horned Frogs (5-15, 1-5) 17-8 in the extra period.
Down 69-61 with 1:04 remaining in regulation, Brock Reichner hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to five. After Chudi Chinweze hit two free throws, Rashaun Broadus hit a jumper and a 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to cut the lead to 71-69.
The Cougars immediately fouled Chinweze, who missed his first free throw and hit the second with 23 seconds left to give the Cougars an opportunity to tie. Lee Cummard hit the clutch 3-pointer for BYU to tie the game with 10 seconds on the clock.
TCU wasn't able to get a shot off before regulation time expired.
In a game of runs, Jimmy Balderson scored eight of his 10 points during a 14-2 BYU run that gave the Cougars a 55-52 lead with 6:55 remaining in the game. The Horned Frogs immediately responded with a 15-4 run of their own that gave TCU its 69-61 lead.
In the first half, TCU went on a 16-2 run after trailing 17-11 early in the half and had another 8-0 run to give the Horned Frogs their largest lead of the game at 40-25.
Nile Murry led TCU with 18 points and five assists. Chinweze scored 16 points and finished with a team high seven rebounds.
Turnovers were a big problem for both teams. BYU had 13 in the first half and finished with 20, while TCU had 13 in the second half finishing with 22.
