SYNDEY, Australia, Dec 18, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Kylie Minogue's gold hot pants, which helped launch her career in 2000, are unraveling as they make their way across Australia in a traveling exhibit.
The Australian singer bought the vintage shorts in a London charity shop and she wore them as she danced on a bar in her "Spinning Around" video.
The shorts are being transported in a climate-controlled glass case but they are so delicate now, handlers must move them wearing white gloves, the Sunday Mirror reported.
"The pants just can't take any unnecessary strain," said a spokeswoman at Powerhouse museum in Sydney. "The gold coating lifts off every time they are touched."
More than 400,000 people have seen "Kylie: An Exhibition" so far.
The pop star was scheduled to undergo her final treatment in Paris Sunday for breast cancer, the newspaper said.
