SALT LAKE CITY — A former IRS worker and attorney faces prison time for not only failing to pay taxes for 23 years but trying to hide his income from the agency that employed him.

A federal jury in Las Vegas convicted Sandy resident Craig P. Orrock of tax evasion and obstructing the internal revenue laws. Orrock evaded more than $500,000 in federal income taxes from 1993 through 2015 and obstructed IRS efforts to collect the money, according to the Nevada U.S. Attorney's Office.

Orrock filed individual income tax returns during those years but did not pay what he owed the government, according to federal prosecutors. He tried to prevent the IRS from collecting money through the use of nominee entities, bank accounts and trusts to hide his income and assets from IRS collection officers.

In 2007, he hid from the IRS real estate he owned through Arville Properties LLC as well as the proceeds from the sale of the property, prosecutors said.

Orrock faces up to five years in prison as well as a period of probation, restitution and fines. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 26.
