SALT LAKE CITY -- Foodies in Salt Lake City got some exciting news Thursday about mobile food trucks and The Food Network.

The Torta Truck and Chowtruck are set up at the Gallivan Center downtown, and people are coming up to the windows for lunch. Tables and chairs have been set up around the area. It's a new effort by the city, allowing food trucks to park here every Thursday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. through the Spring and Summer.

"It's good food, it's quality food, it's affordable, it's a different take and different angle," said SuAn Chow, the owner of the Chowtruck.

Chow is glad the city is working to change outdated ordinances that required her to move every 2 hours.

"I think the city has received an overwhelming response of people that really see this is something advantageous for the city, for revitalizing downtown, and bringing people out onto the streets."

Food Network competition coming to town

Besides this event, she and the owners of the Torta Truck are preparing for this weekend when The Food Network rolls into town. They are filming The Great Food Truck Race here, and Chow says they hope to get together with the traveling food trucks from around the nation.

"It will help with awareness of how the trend has taken over with mobile food trucks, and that you can get good food from a mobile food truck."

The location will most likely be named on Friday. Most of that buzz and planning is happening through Twitter and Facebook.
