ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The Elko County School Board has voted to institute a four-day school week at rural schools.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/2a2kaao ) that students in Independence Valley, Mound Valley and Ruby Valley will only have to come to class four days a week in order to cut down on travel and allow for more time at home.

The schools will have the same number of instructional minutes per school year as traditional five-day schools, so the updated schedule will have almost nine hours in a school day.

Teachers at these one-room schoolhouses will now have to adjust their lesson plan to fit into a four-day school week. Teacher Shamaria Rodriguez says she's still working on her lesson plan but is excited for the change.
