BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards has been hospitalized.

Edwards' wife, Trina, confirmed in a text message that the 88-year-old was admitted Wednesday to a hospital for pneumonia. She did not divulge where he's being treated.

She says Edwards is being treated with antibiotics and is already feeling "much better." She told WDSU-TV (http://bit.ly/1N8mG6l ) that they're hoping to have him home in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

In a Facebook post, Trina Edwards said her husband had developed a cough while they were out of town visiting friends. She says they take his health very seriously so they checked with his doctor on their way home and discovered the pneumonia.

She says she appreciates everyone's concern, "but he's fine and already feeling much better."

Edwards, a Democrat, served as governor from 1972 to 1980 and again from 1984 to 1996.
