SEATTLE (AP) — The University of Washington and its about 4,500 academic student employees have reached a tentative agreement for a new three-year contract.

The agreement was reached after three months of negotiations and hours before the current contract expires.

The proposal would cover teaching assistants, research assistants, readers, grader and tutors.

Union members will vote on the proposed contract in the next few weeks.

The university says the proposal includes wage increases, improvements in benefits and the beginning of discussions about social justice issues.
