DETROIT (AP) — A 53-year-old man has died while performing maintenance at a wastewater treatment plant at a Chrysler factory in Detroit.

The fire department says Donald Megge of Sterling Heights was caught in a machine press Tuesday.

In a statement, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles called it a "tragic accident" during the day's first shift. The company says it's investigating. The factory makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.

Megge's union, the United Auto Workers, expressed sympathy to his family, friends and co-workers.

In 2012, a worker at the factory fatally stabbed another worker before killing himself a few miles away at a park.
