LEHI — The Lehi High School assistant softball coach who was struck by lightning Sunday died Wednesday evening from her injuries.

Carla Grow, 50, was shocked when lightning hit a tree in the backyard where she and her family were having dinner Sunday around 6:30 p.m., according to Lehi Fire Battalion officials. The shock sent her body into cardiac arrest and she was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.

Grow was put into a medically induced coma and seemed to show signs of improvement after she opened her eyes Tuesday. However, Lehi High School head softball coach Tim Kennedy confirmed Grow died Wednesday evening as a result of the injuries.

Alpine School District spokesman David Stephenson said Grow was loved by players and the community. She had worked at the school since 2013.

The softball team and coaches rallied around Grow after the accident and a GoFundMe account* has been set up to help with Grow's extensive medical bills. On Oct. 10, the team will be holding a pancake breakfast and home run derby at the high school.
