SALT LAKE CITY — Another law enforcement agency in Utah is warning residents of a warrant scam.
Police say someone has been calling residents claiming to be from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. The caller tells the resident that there is a warrant out for their arrest because they missed jury duty, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The caller tells the victim they can resolve the issue if they send money or a money order to a certain address, Hoyal said.
Similar scams have been reported in Davis and Summit counties in recent weeks.
Police officers will never ask for money to take care of warrants, according to Hoyal. He said fines and fees are taken care of by the courts.
Hoyal did not know Thursday if the same person was responsible for all of the recent scams.
