THE GREAT OUTDOORS — Anglers, rejoice! The best fishing day of the year is almost upon us— fishing is free throughout Utah on Saturday.

June 10 will be free fishing day in Utah and doesn’t require a fishing license, according to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The annual event offers an opportunity for new and longtime anglers to get out and enjoy some of the state’s best fishing holes.

The wildlife agency is offering several events on Saturday at various locations throughout Utah. The “Cops and Bobbers" event will include officials from the DWR and from several police agencies and will teach beginning anglers tips for successful fishing.

The “Cops and Bobbers” events will be held at the following ponds:

  • Skylar’s Pond, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pond is in Willow Park in Logan.
  • Syracuse Pond, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The pond is part of the Jensen Nature Park in Syracuse.
  • Bountiful Pond, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The pond is just west of Legacy Highway in Bountiful.
The other events will help teach anglers about local fishing hot spots, and officials will be available to answer fishing questions. Anglers are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles, but if they don’t have one, a limited number of poles will be available for use.

  • Green’s Lake at Red Canyon Lodge, 9 a.m. to noon. The lake is in Daggett County.
  • Matt Warner Reservoir, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The reservoir is in Uintah County.
  • Lower Stillwater Ponds, 9 a.m. to noon. The ponds are in Duchesne County.
  • Little Reservoir, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The reservoir is east of Beaver.
  • Bristlecone Pond, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pond is at the Brian Head Ski Resort east of Parowan. In addition to food and prizes, the Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife will host a free fishing workshop at 9 a.m. at the Bristlecone Pond event.

If you can’t attend one of the free events and don’t already have a favorite fishing hole, there are 50 community fishing ponds located throughout Utah. Click here for the full list and directions.

For more details about any of the events, visit the DWR Facebook page.
