MIDVALE — A woman was hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday following a shooting in a Midvale apartment.
The 35-year-old woman was shot in her side in a unit at Springs of Country Woods Apartments, 6945 S. Well Wood Road, about 2:35 p.m., said Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke. She is expected to survive.
A man who police believe was involved in the shooting was seen by a witness running from the apartment and getting into a semitruck. That 53-year-old man was taken into custody less than five minutes later following a "high-risk stop" at 7200 South and 900 East, Lohrke said.
The man had recently suffered a minor injury to his hand, "which may have been consistent with the event that occurred back at the apartment complex," he said.
The man's name was not immediately released. He was still being interviewed by police Tuesday evening.
A gun was recovered following the vehicle stop. Lohrke said there was no indication the semitruck was a stolen vehicle.
The witness who reported the fleeing man had been sleeping inside the same apartment when the shooting occurred. The shots woke him up, the lieutenant said.
The man in custody and the woman who was shot know each other, Lohrke confirmed.
"(We are) trying to determine why this shooting took place," he said.
