SALT LAKE CITY — Police were trying to determine Monday what led to the death of a man whose body was found near the Jordan River Parkway Trail.
The body of a man, who was described as being in his 20s, was found at about 4 p.m. by people walking along a trail near 800 North Riverside Drive, according to the Salt Lake City police detective Greg Wilking.
Investigators determined the man's identity Monday night, but his name was not released pending notification of family.
Wilking said the man had visible trauma, possibly a gunshot wound, but the cause of death has not been determined. No weapon was found near the body, he said.
"We're actually trying to talk to witnesses right now," Wilking said Monday afternoon. "Anybody in the neighborhood that has seen or heard anything, we would like to hear from them. We have officers that are canvassing the area and talking to people."
The man's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
