SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A judge says a northern Utah woman is still not mentally fit to stand trial in the death of her 2-year-old son.
Lawyer David Perry said Monday that 43-year-old Heidi Marie Rutchey has been treated at the Utah State Hospital for a year, but administrators report she remains incompetent for trial.
Rutchey faces a murder charge in the August 2013 death of her son Eli. Court records show she tried to kill herself and told staffers at a Logan hospital she had suffocated her son in a bathtub.
Authorities went to her house in River Heights and found the boy, who they believe had been dead for several days.
Cache Valley Daily reports Judge Brandon Maynard ruled she remains unfit for trial and set a new hearing for next year.
