LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Wildlife officials say they expect two men to plead guilty to poaching a beloved buck that had become a sort of mascot in Hyde Park.
The Logan Herald Journal reports 36-year-old Garland resident Shelby D. Rhodes and 28-year-old Logan resident Steven Spillett were scheduled to appear in court Monday for an arraignment.
Matt Burgess of the Utah Division of Wildlife told the newspaper the men were planning to plead guilty to the misdemeanor charges against them.
Wildlife officials said the buck had a large, 9-by-8 point rack and was named Bart. Some Hyde Park residents said they considered him a pet.
He was found dead in the fall of 2013, and wildlife officials said photos that later surfaced on a hunting website led them to Rhodes and Spillett.
