OGDEN- Saturday was a special day for Weber State football.
First, the Wildcats retired the number 10 for former quarterback and Walter Payton Trophy winner Jamie Martin, who played 16 seasons in the NFL. Second, it was senior day for the program. Finally, and most importantly, Weber State earned a 34-21 victory over Northern Colorado.
Weber dominated the game offensively, and made several opportune plays on defense when needed.
No game is perfect, but the instant observations are the Wildcats are on a two-game winning streak.
A week after the Wildcats weren’t able to rush for much of anything, Weber State rushed for 204 yards. In the second half, the Wildcats switched to a rushing-dominated attack, and Bo Bolen took over the game. Bolen rushed for 143 yards in the game.
Clark had a good day for Weber, but his two interceptions were a downside to the afternoon. Thankfully, a heads-up play by Shaydon Kehano saved one of his interceptions from being a Northern Colorado pick-six.
The bad wasn’t part of the equation for Weber, as the Wildcats forced five Northern Colorado turnovers. One of the turnovers was straight ugly, and the other four were inopportune. All day, Weber’s defense stripped the ball from Northern Colorado, and recovered a muffed snap in the final minutes that allowed the Wildcats to ice the game.
