ST. GEORGE — A man was killed Wednesday morning after the pickup truck he was driving was hit by a cement pump truck, police said.
The accident occurred near 1275 E. Red Hills Parkway around 6:20 a.m., according to St. George police Captain Mike Giles. The driver of a cement pump truck was headed west on Red Hill Parkway when it crossed over into oncoming traffic while going around a bend and hit an eastbound GMC pickup truck, Giles said. The cement truck rolled onto its side after the collision.
The driver of the pickup truck, Bruno Loreda, 52, died at the scene of the accident. The 53-year-old driver of the cement truck received non-life threatening injuries in the accident and the 37-year-old passenger in the pickup truck was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
The names of the passenger and the cement truck driver were not immediately released.
Red Hills Parkway between Industrial Road and 350 North were closed during the investigation. Highland Drive between Industrial Road and Red Hills Parkway was also closed and police said commuters should take alternate routes.
Giles said the investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, but speed and road conditions could be a factor.
