DRAPER — A 1-month old boy is in critical condition after almost drowning Friday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m., Unified Fire Authority and Draper Police responded to a possible drowning near 13000 S. Pinnacle Way. Paramedics performed CPR on the boy and transported him to Primary Children's Medical Center where he is in stable, but critical condition. He is expected to survive.
Sgt. Pat Evans of the Draper City Police Department said the father was in the process of bathing the boy when the infant nearly drowned. He said it was his understanding that the father was with the infant the entire time.
"It's a very difficult situation any time you're dealing with someone in that type of situation. But with children, it's obviously more sensitive and more critical to get them the help as fast as possible," Sgt. Evans said.

The baby wasn't breathing when police had him airlifted near his apartment on Pinnacle Point Way. Sgt. Evans says the investigation hasn't turned criminal.
"We're going to do our due diligence and do a thorough investigation. We have detectives and crime scene investigators who are going to do everything they can to put together what happened," Sgt. Evans said.
The father was alone with the child when he called 9-1-1 for help. Evans says practically all on-duty officers responded to the scene due to the tragic nature of the case.
Investigators are in the process of determining the exact cause of the near drowning.
